About The Role

The Department of Psychology is currently looking to employ part time Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) to assist with running workshops for a Master’s module that will be running from November 2025 to March 2026.

Systematically Reviewing Psychological Research (PSY6232)

Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) are required to deliver 11 small-group workshops as part of a Master’s module that is running from November 2025 to March 2026, outside of standard semester teaching weeks. This module aims to teach students how to undertake a systematic review. The responsibilities of successful candidates will be to act as a methodological expert to support their student team to complete their review. Consequently, applicants should have direct experience undertaking a systematic review and should have competency in common methodologies used during systematic reviews. Teaching will be completed under the close supervision of the module lead.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a methodological expert in systematic reviews and to support their student team to complete their review.
  • Deliver predetermined activities to teaching by undertaking delivery of workshops to develop student skills, in liaison with senior colleagues.
  • Attend weekly meetings with senior colleagues regarding planning of teaching and monitoring student progress.
  • Keep abreast with content on modules being taught.
  • Be aware of specific student needs within your tutorials groups, and dynamically adjust the delivery of tutorials as appropriate to meet these needs.
  • Provide guidance on the preparation of assignments.
  • Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post.


Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area (or have equivalent experience).
  • Currently studying towards a PhD in a relevant subject area (or have equivalent experience).
  • Effective interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, to support and liaise with staff and students.
  • Ability to provide advice to students on study skills and assist with any learning problems.
  • Availability to deliver weekly teaching sessions between November 10th 2025 - December 20nd 2025 and February 9th 2026 - March 20th 2026.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in relevant departmental training and introductory pastoral support training.
  • Keep abreast with content on modules being taught.
  • To have previously undertaken a systematic review and to have competency in common methodologies uses during systematic reviews
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

    Desirable Criteria:

  • A familiarity with the PRISMA reporting guidelines for systematic reviews.
  • A keenness to learn new skills around automation in systematic reviews.
  • Ability to motivate high performance in others.
  • A good understanding of the HE sector.

Pay Rate: £17.58 per hour + holiday pay
Total Hours: 48 hours for the assignment
