About The Role

This work aims to bring Sheffield Water Centre (SWC) into closer collaboration with arts-based methods, drawing initially on practices studied and developed across the Faculties of Arts and Humanities (FAH) and Social Sciences (FOSS) at the University of Sheffield.

Job Description
This post has two core aims:
Strand one of this work seeks to map the use of arts-based methods  in FAH and FSS, identifying their potential to contribute to research about water and the environment, such as may be undertaken by Sheffield Water Centre. The output of this work could take several forms — most likely a written presentation accompanied by a mind map or similar visual tool that charts the methods explored and connects them to the researchers and practitioners working in this space.
The second strand of this work involves a literature review — encompassing creative and visual works alongside academic texts — that maps existing examples of arts-based methods being applied to water-related topics. Drawing on the methods charted in Strand One, this bibliographic study aims to identify both the approaches used and the purposes they served. Importantly, the review will seek to represent the full spectrum of practice: from arts-based methods deployed for science communication, through to their use as a mode of research in their own right.  The output of this work might be an initial literature review accompanied by an annotated bibliography.
The work would suit an arts based student undertaking research.
Person Specification

  •  Excellent written communication skills

Desirable:
  • Knowledge or experience of water management or environmental research or practice
