About The Role

 

Job Description:

1. Supporting their language specialism in processing Japanese language materials, working with Metadata Specialists, so that all items are processed accurately for academics, researchers and students.

2. Supporting all sections of the University Library in the procurement and curation of Japanese language resources, working with the East Asian Studies Librarian.

3. You will collect, unpack, sort and re-shelve returned and recently-consulted Japanese materials to library shelves according to the classification system.

Skills Required:

1. Japanese language ability is essential.

2. Broad general knowledge of Japanese history, culture and society is essential.

3. Numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail is essential - the post involves creating metadata for Japanese resources in order that they can be searched for by students and researchers; therefore, the ability to enter data accurately in the appropriate language is very important.

4. Professional information skills, including the ability to undertake searches of bibliographic databases and the developing range of scholarly sources on the internet.

5. The ability to use initiative, work independently and as part of a team is desirable.

6. General IT skills and competence would be beneficial, but full training will be provided on Library systems specific to the role.

7. Other East Asian language abilities would be beneficial.
