About The Role

 The International Recruitment team, part of the Department of Global Engagement, is here to show prospective students why the University of Sheffield is such a great place to study. We are looking to recruit a friendly, enthusiastic International Student Ambassador who is fluent in Mandarin and has skills in poster design, video editing and writing for social media. You’ll be part of our wider International Student Ambassador team with a special focus on working with our China team and our Chinese social media channels.


Job Description:

This role will primarily focus on contributing to our Chinese social media channels in various ways. You’ll need excellent communication skills (both written and spoken) in English and Mandarin.  Also, you’ll have the chance to work in a wide range of experiences such as delivering online/in-person presentations and campus tours to the prospective students and visitors. 

Working hours will vary. Hours will be scheduled to fit your study timetable and agreed with your line manager. Work requests will vary depending on the needs of the department and the opportunities available. 

Typical work includes:

  • Translate English subtitles and add Chinese subtitles to videos. 
  • Design event posters for use on the University’s social media channels.
  • Manage offer-holder groups. Perform administrative tasks including verifying offers.
  • Monitor enquiries and provide insights on Chinese social media.
  • Deliver presentations online or in person to prospective students.
  • Take part in online question and answer sessions with prospective students.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post.

 

Person Specification: 

Essential criteria: 

  • Registered as a University of Sheffield student for the academic year 2025-26 and preferable to be at the University for 2026-27. 
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken Mandarin.
  • An understanding of the needs and interests of our Chinese student audience.
  • Enthusiasm and passion to share your experiences of studying at the University of Sheffield.
  • Good organisational skills – must be able to manage your time to ensure work/study balance.
  • Willingness to participate in photoshoots, videos and other promotional activities.
  • Evidence of ability to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Awareness of the importance of customer relationships and good customer service. 

Desirable criteria:

  • Previous work experience in managing Chinese social media channels.
  • Skills and experience in photo and video editing and content creation.

 

Pay rate: £12.64 per hour + holiday pay entitlement

Interviews: We will contact you by 6th November if we would like to select you for an interview. Interviews will be conducted online and will take place on 13th November.

Next steps for successful applicants: Candidates must prove they are eligible to work within the United Kingdom by registering with the Jobshop and providing relevant documents prior to taking up the post. 

The successful candidate will be asked to complete a number of registration tasks and attend a series of online training sessions.
