Faculty of Social Sciences Role: Active Student Voice Partner (ASVP)

Overview:

The Faculty of Social Sciences is offering 3 positions in the role of Active Student Voice Partner (ASVP). These roles offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to shaping and developing the student experience within the faculty through student voice. This is a genuine opportunity to help embed student voice to shape key decision-making processes and strategies that impact undergraduate and postgraduate experiences across the faculty. 


ASVP’s will be supported throughout the role by the Faculty of Social Sciences Education Team. The Education Team will provide ASVP’s with advice, guidance, and training where required, throughout the project. This is a genuine student-staff co-production opportunity to shape and enhance the student experience. Successful applicants will be part of a small team of students, sharing best practices and knowledge with each other, building a sense of community and working towards common goals, while working on project briefs informed by student voice within the faculty. 

 
Job Description:

The ASVP’s will be supported by the Faculty Education team to explore themes and develop pieces of work, as identified by student voice metrics. This work will be provided in the format of set projects, which ASVG will work on together, to enhance specific areas of student experience. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop recommendations to inform faculty strategy and improve student experience

  • Work on themes and pieces of work informed by student voice metrics

  •  Suggest areas of improvement, contributing to the design and implementation of this improvement, and showcasing the benefits this can bring to students. 

  • Work collaboratively in student staff partnership, on small projects throughout the year, which will seek to change and improve the student experience 

  • To work with staff and students as equal partners within project work

  • Help ensure the views and opinions of other students outside this group are encouraged, listened to, and incorporated into project ideas

  • Present the work of the Active Student Voice Group to committees, other stakeholders in the Faculty and the University

  • Attend project meetings with your team members as appropriate

  • Attend mandatory training sessions

  • Undertake project work with ambition and creativity

  • All other duties, in line with the level of the post 
Person Specification - Essential Criteria:
  1. Must be a current University of Sheffield student studying within the Faculty of Social Sciences
  2. Passionate to improve and enhance student experience 
  3. Willingness to help engage and encourage others to share their personal experiences of studying at University
  4. Willingness to share personal experiences, views and opinions about student experience within the Faculty of Social Sciences
  5. Ability to work as part of a team
  6. Ability to develop positive relationships with others and assist other team members to achieve the overall objectives
Person Specification - Desirable Criteria:
  • Ability to provide solutions to problems, make decisions and know when to refer decisions to line managers
This work opportunity is expected to take no more than 80 hours over the academic year. We recognise that students have a number of responsibilities outside of and including your studies. As such, there is flexibility regarding how and when the work is undertaken, within an agreed timeframe.

Rate of pay: This role is paid at Grade 2.2 (£12.64 per hour plus holiday pay). All role holders will be able to use this opportunity on future job applications, and we would be glad to provide any future employers with a formal reference on request.
