Employability and Placement Hub Assistant

Are you interested in helping to deliver employability support in the Employability and Placement Hubs on Campus? We are looking for a small team of Employability and Placement Hub Assistants to be the first point of contact for queries relating to careers/employability along with some administrative work. You’ll be signposting to resources and services around the University and beyond, and helping us to grow our support for students interested in gaining work experience. 

Job Description

The role will include: 

  • As part of an inclusive and welcoming service, provide a first point of contact to help students access and apply for work experience opportunities including part time jobs, placements and to signpost to other employability and careers support/events.
  • Administrative tasks to support the Hubs which could include accurate and timely job vacancy processing on Career Connect and responding to emails from a variety of stakeholders.
  • Liaising with employers regarding the submission of high quality vacancies, events and system issues.
  • Ensuring the Terms and Conditions of Advertising and GDPR are adhered to when managing Career Connect data
  • Proactive vacancy research - actively looking for part time work opportunities and contacting employers about these.
  • Contributing to the promotion of the Employability and Placement Hubs including in-person engagement at events e.g. Freshers Fair.
  • Keeping up to date with services and events offered by the University Careers & Employability Service and other organisations
  • Helping to staff events e.g. Freshers week, employer events, open days.

Person Specification

Skills required – Essential:

  • Excellent customer service skills (including active listening), with the ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, and an efficient approach to responding to enquiries both in person or via email. 
  • Administration experience demonstrating accuracy and an ability to follow procedures.
  • IT skills - good attention to detail with experience of data processing and Google suites to maintain accurate and meaningful records and communicate with students and colleagues whilst following University procedures relating to data protection and confidentiality.
  • Proactive customer engagement skills to generate interest in the Employability and Placement Hub services
  • Able to work independently to develop knowledge of resources and facilitate the student-facing service with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively on joint tasks and projects.

Desirable (not essential):

  • Lived experience of part time work, an internship or placement year, and willingness to share learning from this. 
  • An interest in student employability/ Careers and Employability activity or engaged with employability projects either within the University or beyond.

 

Further Details:

Pay rate: Grade 3.3 £12.83 plus holiday pay entitlement per hour.

Hours: Approximately 8 -12 hours per week on a rota basis to be agreed and arranged if offered the work. 

Location: You will work across our multiple Employability and Placement Hubs on campus as part of a team of Hub Assistants to staff the drop-in service. 

You must be available to start training/work w/c 15th September until the end of November in the first instance.
