About The Role
The work will involve providing technical support for the laboratory and microbial aspects of a
project funded by the National Biofilm Innovation Centre. The post will involve supporting the
laboratory tests and microbial analysis of environmental samples to determine the biodegradation
potential of constructed wetlands. The work within the project will include data collection, water
physico-chemical and microbial characterization of samples using molecular techniques (i.e.
DNA extractions, quantification and PCR).

We are looking for applicants willing to work in a scientific research environment, ideally with a
BSc in Biological, Environmental Sciences or any other relevant scientific or BTEC
qualification. Experience in the use of molecular techniques to study microorganisms in
environmental or clinical samples is needed (i.e. DNA extractions, PCR, etc.). The job will also
involve maintaining an awareness and commitment to the relevant health and safety rules and
regulations at the University of Sheffield. Attend all required safety and training courses, and
comply with required safety, licensing and ethical regulations. 
 
Pay: £17.34 per hour plus holiday entitlement
